Ciao a tutti,
We are very excited to start the preparations for another course of Italian language and culture here at L’Italiano...Parlando.
We will continue having our classes on Monday night from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Italian Community Center off Manitou Road. We are also making some major program improvements this year.
- We will have only one program running for an entire school year. Our 2009-2010 program will start the first week of October and will last until the first week of June, for a total of approximately 30 weeks. Each class will be approximately 90 minutes long. We will likely follow the public school calendar and closings.
- The cost is $135 for student for the entire year (which correspond to approximately $3/hour). Some benefits will be included with the registration fee (such as junior IACC membership; use of IACC libray; use of bocce courts; etc..).
- The students will be divided in groups based in part upon age and in part upon their knowledge of the Italian language. We are going to start using textbooks (not included in the registration fee). Some of our returning students already have the required textbooks (we will use the program Ciao and Superciao check it out at http://www.ciaoit.com) and therefore they will not need to buy another textbook.
- In order to keep each group small and be able to teach better to the students, we are going to limit the number of students attending the course. We would like to receive the students registration by September 15 so that we will be able to organize the groups, programs, and teaching material. After the first week of school no additional students will be allowed to join our programs. We feel that adding new students during the school year will disrupts the classes, and will make more difficult for students to learn. Please contact us or send the registration form (you can download a copy by clicking here) by September 15, 2009.
- We are also changing our traditional dancing and singing programs. As we did in the past years, we would still love to transmit the cultural aspect of the Italian language, such as dancing and singing. However, we would like to do that as an extra curriculum activity. In the beginning of the course we are going to have a signing sheet for students who want to commit to these extra curriculum activities (that will be held on different days and time from the Monday class, probably on bi-monthly meetings). The dates of these extra curriculum activities will be provided during the school year, after we get input from parents and students who are interested. Keeping these extra curriculum activities separate from the class will allow for more time to concentrate on the teaching and leaning of the Italian language.
- We are looking for parents who will help to organize extra curriculum activities (i.e. bocce league; fund raising events). Please let us know if you may be interested.
We are looking forward to another amazing school year here at L’Italiano...Parlando and are excited that you are contemplating joining us again.
We appreciate all the work and effort that you put into being ambassadors for L’Italiano...Parlando.
